Here are some useful things to keep in mind when taking care of your hair. I promise your hair will thank you!

Do
- Moisturize consistently– Your hair needs moisture! Dry hair leads to unwanted breakage.
- Low manipulation/protective styles– The more you style and manipulate your hair, the more prone it is to breaking off.
- Wash your styling tools regularly- Product build-up can cause bacteria to grow on your brushes, combs, bonnets, etc. So it’s best to wash them regularly to avoid these germs from getting in your hair.
- Deep condition– Not required for every wash-day, but your hair will thank you when you incorporate a deep conditioner in your routine.
- Be patient with your hair!
- Trim regularly– Health over length all day everyday. Skipping trims can cause split ends to stunt growth to the point where your hair is growing at the same rate that it is breaking off.
Don’t
- Wear tight hairstyles/over-style hair– This can lead to breakage and even bald spots from the stress on your hair.
- Skip wash-day– Product build-up from dirty hair can clog your cuticles and prevent healthy hair growth.
- Sleep without a bonnet and/or satin pillowcases- Yes your hair needs protection, even at night!
- Detangle on dry hair– always use moisture when detangling to prevent breakage.
- Use products with Sulfates, Parabens, and other harmful chemicals- these ingredients are really harmful for your hair.
- Leave hair wet for long periods of time- When your hair is wet, it is in its most vulnerable state, so be sure to dry it throughly.
- Compare your hair journey to others- Everyone’s hair is different. What works for your curls may not work for someone else’s.
- Over-process your hair with dye/bleach- Pops of color is cute, but be sure to not overdo it because this can damage your curls.
