My Journey

Browse through my natural hair journey as I go from damaged to dyed to big chop to a full thriving fro.

Silk Press

When I say I used to love my hair straightened, I used to LOVE my hair straightened. It also felt more convenient when it came to styling because at the time I was a cheerleader and the styles required were easier for straight hair. But eventually I got tired of hiding when it rained and trying not to sweat out my edges, so I started my transition to no-heat.

Heat Damage

I would put heat on my hair so often that I was shocked that I even had curls. Once I noticed my hair had potential, I began to experiment with different products, but lowkey failed and decided to go back to my silk press.

Highlights

Once I finally convinced my mom to let me get a “lil color” the rest was history. Appointment after appointment I would get more highlights to the point I had a lil ombré forming.

Whole Head

Eventually I went full forced and dyed my entire head and I loved it. Ironically I didn’t tell my mom I was getting my entire head dyed. I just came home from the salon a new person. I did not notice then, but constantly straightening and dying my hair caused a lot of damage in the long run.

Side Part Bussdown

This was a graduation and prom style. I love me some inches, but the maintenance was not it. Random fact: I was nominated as best hair in high school.

Braid Out

Freshman year of college was the first time that I realized I was on my own with my hair. I was hours away from my trusted stylists, so I began to experiment. That is when braid-outs became my girl. Once I started investing in my hair, my ombré was completely grown out from new growth.

3 Different Colors

Once I noticed the hair growth, I attempted to try and dye my hair the same color. As you can see I got the wrong color and absolutely hated my hair. This is the beginning of my “I need to change my hair” phase.

Dye Round 538839

Yep, you guessed it, I decided to dye my hair yet again. This time darker in another attempt to match my roots. However, after a few washes the color faded and I hated my hair again.

Big Chop

Boom, one random day I decided to cut my hair while in my online class. It was completely random and I also didn’t tell my mom until after the fact. However, I regretted it immediately because I had no idea what to do with my hair this length. It didn’t even fit in a ponytail. I resorted to braids and wigs until I got some hang-time.

Little Fro

This is when I started to notice the beauty in my hair. I constantly got compliments to how the shape fit my face, but I still wasn’t confident in it. Then I hid it some more to the point where I got tired of wearing wigs.

Big Fro

Junior year of college was when I really got into seeing what worked for my curls. TikTok was a major help and I found a lot of my favorite products from this platform. Then I started my hair page on Instagram to help others just like me find a love for their hair.
